# Closing a Trade

> Exit part or all of a position and confirm that the exposure is actually gone.

A trade is not finished when the idea is finished. It is finished when the position is actually reduced or closed.

## Close from your position

Open **Positions** and select the position you want to manage.

From there, use the available position controls to reduce or close the exposure.

You can close:

* the full position
* part of the position, if you want to scale out

## Close with an opposite order

In Pro mode, an order in the opposite direction can reduce an existing position.

When the purpose of the order is only to exit, use **Reduce only** so the order cannot accidentally increase or reverse your exposure.

### Example

You are long 0.01 BTC.

A reduce-only sell for 0.01 BTC is intended to close that long.

Without reduce-only protection, an incorrectly sized sell could potentially do more than simply close the position.

## Use TP/SL for planned exits

If you know the exit level in advance, a take-profit or stop-loss order can automate the trigger rather than waiting for you to close manually.

## Check for leftover orders

Closing a position does not mean every related waiting order has necessarily disappeared.

After closing, check **Open orders** for:

* old limit orders
* conditional entries
* take-profit orders
* stop-loss orders

Cancel anything you no longer want active.

## Confirm the position is closed

Finish with two checks:

1. **Positions** no longer shows the exposure you intended to close.
2. **Trade history** shows the closing execution.

If an order is still sitting under Open orders, the position may not be fully closed yet.
